There are three important people involved in the design and use of a communication device. They are the client, the facilitator, and the designer. The client is the person for whom the device is being built. This is the person who, due to some existing condition, is unable to communicate in an effective manner. The facilitator is the person who helps the client function in society [KB93][TK93][IF87][GV84], and is the person who will program/reprogram the device to meet the client’s needs and desires. Finally, there is the designer. This is the person building the device that will allow the client to communicate.
